On Wednesday, November 13, 2013, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department held a graduation for the newest members of the Citizens on Patrol (C.O.P.) program. The C.O.P. program was established as a means of assisting the citizens of Mecklenburg County and the CMPD with community patrols using volunteer members to perform civic services. After graduation, the C.O.P. members dedicate a minimum of 16 hours a month of volunteered time to assist police officers and the community. During 2012, our Citizens on Patrol gave 1,346 hours to 5 patrol divisions and have already contributed 1,686 hours in 2013.
