The City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County have received a Justice Assistance Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to fund law enforcement initiatives. The grant is for $483,916. The City of Charlotte will receive $483,916 which will be spent on overtime for police officers to address crime problems in neighborhoods, overtime for the Crime Lab to process evidence in priority cases and funding for the Police Cadet Program which gives college students an opportunity to gain exposure to police work while working on their college degrees. Mecklenburg Country will receive $120,979 which will be spent on equipment and supplies for jail security and programs to prepare inmates for employment upon their release from jail.
