CMPD Auto Theft Detective Hank Suhr met with media to discuss the importance of securing your motorized scooters.  As warmer the weather approaches, more and more people in our community use motorized scooters as a mode of transportation. This also translates into more scooter thefts.  More than 180 scooters were reported stolen in Mecklenburg county in 2013.  Detectives encourage scooter owners to:

·         Secure their scooters with locks and chains.
·         Park in well lighted areas.
·         Take the time to record the make, model and serial number of their scooters.

Officers routinely recover stolen scooters but often have a difficult time reuniting the property with the rightful owner because they never recorded the serial number.

Protect yourself, protect your property by following these tips.
