Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit have charged Andre Jerlynn Jones, DOB: 05/26/1985, in connection with two sexual assault cases that occurred in the Westover Division.

On Thursday, May 15, 2014, at approximately 11:11 p.m., Westover Division patrol officers responded to a sexual assault call for service in the 2000 block of Emerywood Drive.  Upon arrival the victim stated that she arranged to meet the suspect at the location.  During the meeting the suspect sexually assaulted the victim and fled the scene.

On Thursday, May 22, 2014, at approximately 5:02 a.m., a second victim arranged to meet the suspect on Emerywood Drive where she was raped at knife point.  Sexual Assault Detectives responded to the scene to conduct their investigation.  Crime Scene Search also responded to the incident location to process the scenes and collect physical evidence.

Officers immediately connected the two cases and worked to identify the suspect.  On May 23, 2014, the suspect returned to the offense location where he was arrested by Westover Division patrol officers.  Mr. Jones was then transported to police headquarters where he was interviewed by Sexual Assault Unit detectives.

Upon completion of the interview, Sexual Assault Detectives charged Mr. Jones with 1st Degree Forcible Rape, 2nd Degree Forcible Rape and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.  He is currently in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives will continue to investigate to determine if additional charges will be filed.  As additional information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.
