Secondary Employment and Special Events

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department authorizes its police officers to provide law enforcement related services; such as traffic direction and business security in exchange for a fee paid by the employer. Sgt. Bobby Morton and Officer Robert Lyons coordinate Secondary Employment and Lt. Richard Stahnke and Officer John Ruisi coordinate special events.

Secondary Employment
Sgt. Morton and Officer Lyons handle police staffing for all requests that do not involve a street closure, such as security or traffic direction for a business, shopping center, or homeowners association. The Secondary Employment Agreement will provide the necessary information for hiring an off-duty officer. Complete and sign the last page of the Agreement. The last page of the Secondary Employment Agreement and the application must be faxed to 704-336-6892, or emailed to the Secondary Employment office at sea@cmpd.org  in order to process your request. We cannot address the approval of, or staffing level for your request until we have received this paperwork. Make sure the application is complete and thorough to avoid delays in processing your request. You may also email additional documentation that may pertain to your request, such as; ABC permits, maps, plans, etc. Make sure you put the employer name at the top of each page.
