 Crime Statistical Summary for the Month: 
 

Through the end of April, the preliminary total for Index Offenses was 5.2% higher than this time last year.  Property crime increased by 2.9% while violent crime increased by 22.0%.

  • 19 homicides were reported through April, compared to 10, resulting in an increase of 90%.
     
  • 562 robberies were reported compared to 418, resulting in an increase of 34.4%
     
  • 76 rapes were reported compared to 60, resulting in an increase of 26.7%.
     
  • 964 aggravated assaults were reported compared to 841, resulting in an increase of 14.6%.
     
  • Burglary overall was down -14.4%, (2206 compared to 2578) with a decrease of -2.6% in residential (1786 compared to 1834) and a decrease of -43.5% in commercial cases (420 compared to 744).
     
  • 592 vehicle thefts were reported compared to 609, resulting in a decrease of -2.8%.
     
  • Total larceny cases increased by 10.6% (6992 compared to 6321) with the larcenies from auto up by 1.6% (2466 compared to 2427).
     
  • 59 arson cases were reported compared to 68, resulting in a decrease of -13.2%
