The City of Charlotte MLK Planning Committee will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a series of special events recognizing a man whose accomplishments influenced the world.
The following events will pay tribute to Dr. King:
Wednesday, January 15, Noon, MLK statue, Marshall Park
Memorial and Wreath Laying Ceremony
A brief ceremony will begin the annual celebration of Dr. King’s life
Thursday, January 16, 6:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
West Charlotte High School Auditorium, 2219 Senior Drive
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools 20th Anniversary celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Leaving a Legacy – Realizing the Dream Art and Writing Contest Winners
Saturday, January 18, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
City of Charlotte MLK Holiday Parade            
Starting point is 9th and Tryon, continuing to Stonewall
A crowd of more than 15,000 is estimated for this event featuring floats, performers and VIP guests
Sunday, January 19, noon - 4 p.m. and Monday, January 20, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

National Day of Celebration
Crown Ball Room, Charlotte Convention Center
The event features scholarship presentations to the winners of the CMS MLK Art and Writing contest winners and the presentation of the prestigious Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Medallion Award.
