More than 65 people came to Marshall Park in uptown Charlotte on Wednesday to commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on what would have been his 85th birthday. Participants included Pastor Clifford Matthews of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, Nimish Bhatt, senior vice president of the Carolinas Asian-American Chamber of Commerce, Council Members LaWana Mayfield and Vi Lyles and Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon. No City money or in-kind services were used to fund this event.
