Police-community relations

Community Relations works closely with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) to develop trust and communication between officers and citizens. CRC has the following outlets for citizens concerned with police-community relations:

Police complaint review program
Assists citizens in making allegations of officer misconduct, providing them an alternative to registering their complaint directly with the police department's internal affairs division. To learn more or to file a complaint, please call 704-336-2382.

Police-community relations awards program
Nominate an officer now!

Recognizes officers and work teams from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department who have made outstanding contributions to the improvement of police-community relations in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. Citizens from neighborhoods, schools, places of worship, businesses and civic institutions nominate officers, and CRC members review the nominations.

Officers are judged on their involvement in helping the community understand the police function and the citizens role, demonstration of extraordinary efforts in the area of crime prevention, and helping neighborhoods handle their special problems. For more information or to nominate an officer, please call 704-336-3056.
