         Action: Receive LISC Update Letter
On June 11, 2008, the Committee received an update from staff on the business model report, which indicated that the City's CDC Business Model represents "best business practices." The Committee also heard from representatives from the LISC about their organization and how they work with community-based organizations. The Committee members expressed interest in LISC becoming more involved in Charlotte. At that meeting, LISC indicated that it would consider undertaking an assessment of the Charlotte area as a potential community development partner. However, an attached letter indicates that LISC wants to do some additional preliminary work in Charlotte over the next 60 days prior to deciding on undertaking a community assessment.
    2.  Status Report on Gentrification
Action: Receive the Gentrification Report and Discuss
Since January 2005, the City staff has been monitoring changes in seven inner-city neighborhoods for signs of gentrification at six month intervals. This was done at the request of City Council following an initial gentrification report. Although evidence of gentrification has increased appreciably in two neighborhoods Belmont and Wilmore, staff is not recommending changes in our current policies at this time. In the Belmont neighborhood, investments on the part of the HOPE VI project, the Belmont CDC and Habitat for Humanity will ensure that the neighborhood always includes affordable housing opportunities. In Wilmore, events are purely market driven and the City has distributed information regarding gentrification to the residents in the neighborhood.
