Shared Sick Leave
Regular full-time and part-time employees are eligible to participate.  The employee must donate at least one
sick day to sick bank to participate. Participants with catastrophic situations may request leave (up to 45 days). Requestors must have used all their own sick, vacation and Accident & Sickness (A&S) leave. Unused days in the bank are eliminated at the end of each calendar year.

Military Leave
A regular employee may be granted up to two weeks of Military Training Leave for required annual training as a member of the US military forces.  While on Military Training Leave, the employee shall be paid for one-half of his/her scheduled workdays during the approved leave period.  The remaining scheduled workdays during this period at the employee’s option, be charged to accrued vacation leave, or be taken as leave of absence without pay.

Funeral Leave
For death in the immediate family, up to five days of paid funeral leave may be granted in any calendar year.  Family is defined as spouse, parent, grandparent, child, brother, sister, comparable in-law relationships and relationships resulting from a remarriage.  If the need for funeral leave exceeds five days in any calendar year, an employee may take leave without pay or vacation leave with the department’s approval.

Jury Duty
Employees required for jury duty during normal work hours will be excused from work.  Pay received from the courts may be kept by the employee.

Employees required to appear in court as a witness in the public interest (when the employee is serving in the capacity of a City representative) may be excused if court time conflicts with the employee’s normal work hours, upon permission of the key business executive.  Legal matters of a personal nature, do not qualify for court leave and employees should request usage of vacation or leave without pay from their supervisor.

School Support Leave
In support of school and other educational activities in our community, City employees who participate in school support activities may be allowed to take time away from work.  The City will match employee vacation time taken in support of these activities up to 4 hours in a calendar year.
