Solid Waste Services
will not provide collection services on Monday, January 16. Collection will operate on a one-day delay, with Friday customers receiving collection services on Saturday, January 22.
Solid Waste Services is collecting natural Christmas trees through its yard waste collection program. Artificial trees must be scheduled for bulky item collection by calling 311 or visiting http://curbit.charlottenc.gov
. Residents are asked to remove decorations from all trees and place them curbside by 6:30 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.
Because the holidays generate lots of garbage, residents are also encouraged to recycle. For more information about how to properly prepare materials for collection or to schedule a bulky item collection, call 311 or visit http://curbit.charlottenc.gov

Protect Local Streams
Although lawn maintenance can make for a beautiful yard, it is important to protect local stream ecosystems. The timing and application of lawn chemicals is key to safeguarding our community’s water systems. Now is a good time to add lime to your lawn so that the soil pH levels are ready for spring planting.
Before applying any lawn chemicals, Storm Water Services wants to remind you to follow these helpful tips:
Soil test your yard before applying fertilizers
Avoid over spraying chemicals, only apply to the exact areas where you want them
For more tips and information, visit the Storm Water Services webpage.
Bundle up and Protect Plumbing
Winter weather is here; take action now to help prevent burst water pipes, leaks, costly repairs and high water bills later.
Insulate pipes in unheated parts of your home.
Open doors on cabinets beneath sinks to allow warmer air to circulate around plumbing at night.
Seal openings and air leaks in your crawl space or basement. Use cardboard, plastic or newspaper to seal air vents if needed.
Disconnect and drain outdoor hoses and irrigation systems. Make sure outside spigots are off and insulated.
