Tuesday, June 21, 2011

Contact: Haley Gentry, 704-359-4933

Baggage Claim renovations are scheduled to begin June 27 and wrap-up by mid December. Crews will install new ceiling tiles, new eco-friendlier lighting, new signage and replace carpeted areas with terrazzo flooring. This is the largest renovation of Baggage Claim since the terminal opened in 1982.

The renovations will occur in phases, spread over each zone within the Baggage Claim area. The construction schedule is as follows:
  • Zone B (June – September)
  • Zone A (July – October)
  • Zone C (July – October)
  • Zone D (August – December)

During construction, the Airport will barricade and shut down one conveyor belt at a time, while renovations take place within the space surrounding the belt. This will occur for all nine conveyor belts. Work will take place at night, beginning around 9 p.m., and will conclude each day around 6 a.m. Access to the escalators, stairs, elevators and restrooms will be available at all times to the public.
