The LRTP is a fiscally constrained plan that spans a minimum 20 year horizon, is required to be updated every four years and defines MUMPO’s plans, programs and policies.  Anticipated approval of the 2040 LRTP is March, 2014.  Several components of the plan will be available to review, including the goals and objectives, the approved ranking criteria, and the roadway candidate project list.
The public is invited to review materials related to the update of the LRTP on the MUMPO website at, and provide the MPO with its comments and concerns. MUMPO is responsible for coordinating transportation policy for local governmental jurisdictions within the Charlotte Urbanized Area. For more information, visit our website at
*The MPO will soon transition to referring to its 2040 long range transportation plan as the 2040 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), in order to be consistent with federal transportation legislation (MAP-21).
