“For months, I have said that Charlotte and Tampa would ultimately receive the security grant necessary to host our respective national party conventions. After a significant, bipartisan team effort, we cleared a major hurdle: congressional approval of those funds.
I want to extend my congratulations and thanks to my friend and colleague Mayor Bob Buckhorn from Tampa, as well as City Manager Curt Walton, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Rodney Monroe, the DNCC and especially our North Carolina congressional delegation for working so hard to obtain this outcome. Thanks to all of them, we will work to ensure enhanced public safety measures for Charlotte residents and visitors during the convention, and I look forward to President Obama promptly signing the measure into law.”
Currently, Mayor Anthony Foxx is out of the country leading a delegation in China to advance economic development and energy initiatives.
