Today, the Charlotte City Council concluded its retreat. This retreat, unlike previous years, had a heightened focus on Charlotte’s long-term economic challenges and opportunities and included discussion of a 2020 vision. In the coming months, the City Council will discuss an eight-year strategy to align its operating and capital investments to implement the vision.

The City Council also received updates on the 2012 Democratic National Convention (DNC) planning process from Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) Executive Director Steve Kerrigan and Charlotte Host Committee Executive Director Dr. Dan Murrey. Dr. Don Fowler, former CEO of the 1988 DNC in Atlanta and Chair of the Democratic National Committee, and Bob Morgan, President of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, offered commentary on how Charlotte should work to harness the long-term possibilities presented by the convention.

The City Council will develop goals designed to capture the economic development potential of the convention and will work over the coming months with community partners to develop and execute an action plan.
