At a meeting of the Charlotte City Council tonight, the Council appointed Linda Ashendorf to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport Commission, replacing Pamela Bennett. Bennett had formerly been appointed to the Airport Commission but resigned on October 1 due to a conflict of interest clause in the legislation which prohibits an employee of an airport tenant from serving on the Commission (Bank of America has a contractual right to the ATMs at Charlotte-Douglas).
Linda Ashendorf of Linda Ashendorf Public Affairs brings experience in procurement, contracting, communications and community relations to the Commission. The Mayor and Council's appointments to the Oversight Committee are still pending. The Council’s appointments do not signal that the City lends legitimacy to the legislation which took the airport away from City control, despite 78 years of successful management and growth.
