Contact: Charita Curtis, Solid Waste Services
The City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services is excited to announce an update to the Recycle it! program – Residents can now recycle their restaurant pizza boxes. Previously, pizza boxes weren’t accepted due to contamination caused by grease and cheese residue. With changes to the preparation and packaging methods, pizza boxes have less food contamination than they have in the past.
Residents are reminded of the following tips to ensure recycling collection:
Remove food/liquid residue and lids from all recyclable containers before placing them in the recycling cart.
Place recyclables loosely in the rollout cart and do not overfill the cart.
Place the rollout cart curbside by 6:30 am on collection day. Rollout carts must be removed from curbside by midnight the same day.
Place collection items within six feet of the curb. Please do not block the sidewalk.
For more information on the Recycle it! program, including how to purchase an additional recycling cart, visit http://recycleit.charlottenc.gov or call 311 (704-336-7600).
