704-336-3902 or ldurrett@charlottenc.gov

Closure dates: March 1, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, the following roads will be closed:
  • East Trade Street between Caldwell Street and Alexander Street
  • East Fourth Street, East Third Street and East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between Caldwell Street and McDowell Street
  • South Davidson between East Fifth Street and East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

All roads should reopen by 1:00 p.m. This closure is for Officer Fred Thornton’s procession from the Law Enforcement Center to First Baptist Church and to the funeral. South Caldwell Street and South McDowell Street will remain open but are expected to be congested.

CATS will be affected.

Local access to businesses will be maintained.

Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned.  When this occurs, City traffic engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.
