Charlotte Area Transit System
  • Serves more than 89,000 riders per day and more than 25 million passengers per year
  • Operates the largest transit system between Atlanta and Washington, D.C.  

Charlotte Douglas International Airport

  • The 6th busiest airport in the U.S. in operations and 11th in passenger volume
  • Averages 700 daily flights to more than 138 global destinations.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department

  • More than 1,700 sworn officers patrol 3,777 street miles and protect more than 775,000 City and County citizens
  • City's violent crime rate dropped 32.1 percent over the past three years.

CMPD's Animal Care & Control Division

  • Provides more than 4,000 free rabies vaccinations, 1,000 spay and neuter surgeries and 4,300 pet adoptions each year
  • Offers a variety of community outreach topics that educate residents about proper pet care, adoption and animal health concerns.

Engineering & Property Management

  • Administers more than 200 capital improvement projects each year, including roads, intersections, sidewalks, transit lines, storm water systems, fire and police stations
  • Preserves and protects Charlotte's nationally recognized tree canopy.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services

  • Protects the water quality of more than 3,000 miles of streams and shoreline
  • Nationally recognized for its water quality education and public involvement campaigns.
Charlotte Department of Transportation
  • Manages 125,000 traffic control signs, 2,015 miles of sidewalk and 2,400 miles of streets
  • Received the Bronze-Level Walking Friendly Community designation by the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utility Department

  • Delivers 110 million gallons of clean, safe drinking water to 788,000 people each day
  • Received the Safe Drinking Water Act Excellence Award from the Environmental Protection Agency.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Department

  • Develops and implements land use plans to revitalize and enhance neighborhoods, business areas and corridors
  • Oversees the annexation process, netting real property tax revenue.

Charlotte Fire Department

  • Operates 42 fire stations, 42 engines, 15 ladders, six tankers, six aircraft fire and rescue vehicles, five brush trucks and other special operations vehicles and support apparatus 
  • Fields 250,000 calls to 911 and responds to approximately 98,000 incidents.  

Neighborhood & Business Services

  • Improves quality of life by serving as a resource for residents in need of training, affordable housing and other neighborhood assistance
  • Provides support services and programs to businesses to fuel economic growth and prosperity.

 Solid Waste Services

  • Spends 32 percent less per household to collect garbage, recyclable items and yard waste than the statewide average
  • Successfully expanded its Uptown On-Street Recycling Program by installing 20 additional recycling containers along Tryon Street.
