The North Carolina Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) will be holding its annual Equipment and Truck Road-E-O June 13-14 at two locations in Concord. The event will be hosted by the City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services, Mecklenburg County, Republic Services, and Waste Industries.
More than 100 contestants representing public and private waste-collection services will be competing for top driving, operating and mechanical honors. Drivers are required to maneuver competition vehicles through a set course, and mechanics are tested in areas of troubleshooting and diagnostics. All categories are judged on accuracy and time.
The competition will take place at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Silver Lot – 6510 Bruton Smith Boulevard and at the Campground Lot – 5675 Morehead Road. The competitive event will be free and open to the public at both locations on Saturday, June 14 between 8 am and 4 pm. Attendees may watch as drivers attempt to swerve their large trucks through barrels, parallel park and back into an alley.
In addition to the competition, the two-day statewide event includes competitive games, receptions and an awards banquet. First- and second-place winners will qualify for the SWANA International Road-E-O to be held in September in Denver, Colorado.
