The Fleet Management Division of Shared Services is the fleet asset management entity for the City of Charlotte and provides a full spectrum of fleet services. Fleet operates at five major maintenance facilities and one Commission/ De-commission (CDC) facility.
The services provided by Fleet Management Include:
- Collaboration and consultation with internal customers in the use and deployment of their fleet assets
- Policy development
- Equipment specifications
- Preventative maintenance and equipment repair
- Fleet information and usage analysis
- Parts and inventory compliance
- Warranty management
These functions support the all of the departments in the City and 17 departments in Mecklenburg County who provide service to the citizens. Within each maintenance shop, Fleet Management has staffed their facility based on what classes and types of equipment are allocated for maintenance repair. Their focus is that fleet asset management should encompass strategic location, available skill complement, adequate bay space, operating hours for each facility, and an adequate number of technicians. These aspects combine to provide the highest quality for maintenance repair, with the quickest turnaround time at the lowest cost for over 7,000 pieces of equipment for the City and County combined.
Fleet Managment received two national awards. In addition to being ranked in the 100 Best Fleets in North America, Fleet Management Division Manager Chris Trull was named the 2014 Professional Manager of the Year - Public Fleet by the American Public Works Association.
