Street Closings 
 
 
Below is a list of streets that are currently closed for various construction projects, and the dates they are closed. Click "Notify Me" at the top of the page to receive these notices by email.

When closures are necessary, we make every effort to coordinate work to minimize impact to motorists, pedestrians and area businesses.

Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets as planned. If this occurs, our traffic engineers work with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce further impacts to the traveling public.

Street/Lane Closures
Lane Closure: PARK ROAD and KENILWORTH AVENUE5/29/2012 9:00 AM7/20/2012 5:00 PM
  • The two outbound lanes on Park Road and one outbound lane on Kenilworth Avenue between Scott Avenue and Park West Drive will close on Tuesday, May 29 at 9:00 a.m. and will re-open on Friday, July 20 at 5 p.m.
  • This closure is necessary for storm water work. 
  • Kenilworth Avenue will be narrowed to one lane and Park Road will be narrowed to one lane in each direction.
  • Local access will be maintained.
  • CATS will be affected.

EAST 36TH STREET5/22/2012 12:00 AM5/24/2012 5:00 PM
  • The 300 block of East 36th Street between North Tryon Street and North Davidson Street will close on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 for emergency railroad crossing repairs. 
  • The road will reopen Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. 
  • Motorists can detour around the closure using North Davidson Street, Craighead Road and North Tryon Street. 
  • Local access to businesses will be maintained.
  • CATS buses will not be affected.

SHARON ROAD5/21/2012 12:00 AM6/4/2012 12:00 AM
  • Sharon Road, between Queens Road Southwest and Chilton Place, will be milled on Monday, May 21, 2012.
  • This is in preparation for repaving.
  • Work will start at 9:00 a.m. and stop at 4:00 p.m. each day except Saturday, with hours of 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. 
  • Motorists should expect heavy congestion and delays during these times. 
  • Access to driveways will be maintained.
  • CATS will be affected.

FIRWOOD LANE5/20/2012 7:00 AM5/24/2012 7:00 AM
  • Firwood Lane will close between Briabend Drive and Kenlough Drive on Sunday, May 20 at 7:00 a.m. and will re-open on Thursday, May 24 at 7:00 a.m. 
  • This closure is necessary for the Conway Briabend Storm Drainage Improvement Project. 
  • Construction zones will be limited to local traffic only.
  • Motorists may use Briabend Drive, South Boulevard, East Woodlawn Road, Murrayhill Road, Manhasset Road and Kenlough Drive as a detour.
  • Access to driveways will be maintained.
  • CATS will be not affected.

CRIGLER STREET5/16/2012 9:00 AM5/30/2012 12:00 AM
  • Crigler Street will close permanently near the intersection of Rozzelles Ferry Road on Wednesday, May 16 at 9:00 a.m.
  • This closure is necessary for CSX track improvements. 
  • Motorists should use Gossett Avenue and Goff Street after May 16.
  • Access to driveways on Crigler Street will be maintained at all times.
  • CATS will be not affected.

EAST TRADE STREET5/13/2012 6:00 PM5/24/2012 5:00 AM
  • East Trade Street between Davidson Street and North Myers Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction on the following dates:
    • Sunday, May 13 at 6 p.m. until Friday, May 18 at 6 p.m.
    • Monday, May 21 at 5 a.m. until Thursday, May 24 at 5 a.m.
  • East Trade Street between Davidson Street and North Myers Street will close on Friday, May 18 at 6 p.m. and will remain closed until Monday, May 21 at 5 a.m.
  • These closures are necessary for utility work.
  • Westbound detour will be left on South McDowell Street, right on East Fourth Street, right on South Davidson Street and left back on to East Trade Street. 
  • Eastbound detour will be left on North Davidson Street, right on East Fifth Street, right on North McDowell Street and left back on to East Trade Street.
  • Local access will be maintained.
  • CATS will be affected.

Update: CARSON BOULEVARD and SOUTH BOULEVARD5/9/2012 7:00 AM7/31/2012 7:00 AM
  • Carson Boulevard will remain closed between Morehead Square Drive and South Boulevard and will re-open on Tuesday, July 31 at 7:00 a.m. 
  • South Boulevard will continue to be reduced to one lane in each direction until Tuesday, July 31 at 7:00 a.m.
  • Motorists may use Bland Street and Tryon Street as an alternate route. 
  • Signs directing pedestrians to the LYNX Blue Line will be posted on South Boulevard near the work zone.
  • These road closures are necessary for the South Boulevard roadway improvements project which includes realigning Carson Boulevard.
  • Access to driveways will be maintained.
  • CATS will not be affected.

Update: ALEXANDER STREET4/17/2012 5:00 AM6/1/2012 5:00 AM
  • Between East Trade Street and East Fifth Street, Alexander Street closed on Tuesday, April 17 at 5 a.m. Due to unforeseen circumstances it will now re-open on Friday, June 1 at 5 a.m. 
  • This closure is necessary for utility work.
  • Use Davidson Street as an alternate route.
  • All local access will be maintained.
  • CATS will not be affected.

CRESTLAND AVENUE10/21/2011 12:00 AM6/29/2012 5:00 PM
  • Crestland Avenue between Cornelia Drive and Starmount Avenue will remain closed through Friday, June 29, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.
  • This closure began under emergency conditions in January 2010 for breaching of a dam associated with Hunter Acres Pond.  Current work to repair the dam and restore the pond is underway. 
  • Crestland Avenue is a neighborhood street crossing the top of the earthen dam forming the pond. It will be reopened upon completion of the dam restoration. 
  • Local access has been maintained.
  • CATS is not impacted by this closure.

DOUBLE OAKS ROAD1/1/2011 12:00 AM1/30/2013 12:00 AM
  • Double Oaks Road between Samuel Street and Woodward Avenue closes 1/1/2011
  • Detours:
    • Southbound traffic- Right on Samuel Street, right on Newland Road, right on Statesville Avenue, right on Oaklawn Avenue, and right back onto Double Oaks Road. 
    • Northbound traffic- Right on Eureka Street, right on Brewton Drive, right on Tinnin Avenue, left on Double Oaks Road, left on Oaklawn Avenue, left on Statesville Avenue, left on Newland Avenue, and a left back onto Double Oaks Road.
  • CATS will be affected
  • Reopens 1/30/2013
  • Closed for installation of new utilities as a part of the Double Oaks project
  • The Double Oaks Development project is part of an approved plan which will bring mixed use development to the Double Oaks area.  The closure of Double Oaks Road is necessary for upgrading the utility infrastructure to support this project’s needs.
