Communicated: July 24, 2013
Closure dates: Begins July 24, 2013, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
To accommodate milling and roadway repair construction, the 1400, 1500 & 1600 blocks of Central Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction today, Wednesday, July 24, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Also, the intersections of Central Avenue at Thomas Avenue and at Pecan Avenue may close temporarily or have delays. Congestion and delays are to be expected and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.
Beginning Thursday, July 25, 2013 and continuing for several days, paving and striping operations will be conducted between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. This will also require lane closures, but should not impact traffic during typical commute hours.
Access to all businesses will be maintained.
CATS will be affected.
Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, City traffic engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.
Pedestrians walking near work zone areas should be alert, cautious and allow extra traveling time. It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian walk signals where available and abide by detour signage.
Motorists traveling through work zone areas should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers should double their following distance.
