Communicated: April 25, 2013
Closure dates: April 19, 2013 – April 29, 2013
Due to unforeseen circumstances and unexpected utility conflicts, this closure has an additional delay. McDowell Street (shown in red on map below), near the intersection of East Trade Street/Elizabeth Avenue will remain closed through Monday, April 29, 2013 at 6:00 a.m. Motorists on Trade Street/Elizabeth Avenue will be able to travel between Kings Drive and Davidson Street. No turns will be allowed at McDowell Street from Trade Street/Elizabeth Avenue. Motorists on McDowell Street must follow the detours posted in green and orange below. This closure is necessary to accommodate storm water and water line construction related to the CityLYNX Gold Line - Phase 1
. Motorists can expect congestion and additional delays in the project area.
Motorists can use the following detours around this construction:
- Eastbound East Trade Street: Use North Davidson Street, East Seventh Street, and North Kings Drive.
- Westbound Elizabeth Avenue: Use North Kings Drive, East Fourth Street and East Davidson Street.
- Southbound McDowell Street: Use East Sixth Street, North Davidson Street and East Third Street (shown in green on map below).
- Northbound McDowell Street: Use East Fourth Street, North Davidson Street, and East Fifth Street as a detour (shown in orange on map below).
Local access will be maintained.
CATS will be affected. Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, City traffic engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.
Pedestrians walking near work zone areas should be alert, cautious and allow extra traveling time. It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian walk signals where available and abide by detour signage.
Motorists traveling through work zone areas should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers should double their following distance.
