Road Closure: East Trade Street and McDowell Street
Communicated: July 10, 2013
Closure dates: July 15, 2013 – July 20, 2013

The 300 and 400 blocks of East Trade Street (shown in red on Map 1a) between Caldwell Street and College Street will close on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 6:00 a.m. and will reopen on Saturday, July 20, 2013. Motorists on eastbound Trade Street can use North College Street, East Fifth Street and McDowell Street as a detour (shown in blue on Map 1a). Westbound motorists on Trade Street can use East Caldwell Street, East Fourth Street and South College Street as a detour (shown in green on Map 1a).

During the same dates, the 100 block of South McDowell Street will also be closed. Motorists using northbound McDowell Street should use Fourth Street and Davidson Street as a detour (shown in orange on Map 2). Motorists using southbound McDowell Street should use Trade Street, Davidson Street and Third Street as a detour (shown in blue on Map 2).

These closures are necessary to accommodate storm water, water line, and sanitary sewer construction related to the CityLYNX Gold Line – Phase 1 project.

Motorists can expect congestion and additional delays in the project area.

Local access will be maintained.

CATS will be affected.

Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned.  When this occurs, City traffic engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.

Pedestrians walking near work zone areas should be alert, cautious and allow extra traveling time.  It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian walk signals where available and abide by detour signage.

Motorists traveling through work zone areas should be alert and extra cautious.  Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone.  Drivers should double their following distance.
