Communicated: June 19, 2013
Closure dates: June 24, 2013 – June 29, 2013
The 900 and 1000 blocks of Elizabeth Avenue between North Kings Street and North McDowell Street will close on Monday, June 24, 2013 at 6:00 a.m. and will reopen Saturday June 29, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. This closure is necessary to accommodate Overhead Contact System foundation construction related to the CityLYNX Gold Line – Phase 1
. The 600, 700 and 800 blocks of East Trade Street will also remain closed. Motorists can expect congestion and additional delays in the project area.
Motorists travelling on eastbound East Trade Street can use North Caldwell Street, East Seventh Street, and North Kings Drive as a detour (shown in blue on below map). Westbound motorists on Elizabeth Avenue can use North Kings Drive, East Fourth Street and North Caldwell Street (shown in green on below map). Motorists needing to access Long Street should do so from North McDowell Street.
Local access will be maintained.
CATS will be affected.
Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, City traffic engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.
Pedestrians walking near work zone areas should be alert, cautious and allow extra traveling time. It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian walk signals where available and abide by detour signage.
Motorists traveling through work zone areas should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers should double their following distance.
