New Traffic Pattern: Poplar Street

Communicated: March 31, 2014
Advisory dates: Begins April 5, 2014

Poplar Street will permanently convert to two-way traffic between Third Street and Sixth Street (in orange below) beginning Saturday April 5, 2014.  This conversion is part of the Center City Transportation Plan adopted by City Council, and is in coordination with Romare Bearden Park and the BB&T Ball Park.

Motorists traveling through this area should be alert and extra cautious.  Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes in this area.

Pedestrians walking through this area should be alert, cautious and watch for vehicles.  It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian walk signals where available and abide by new signage.

Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned.  When this occurs, City traffic engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.
