Communicated: May 8, 2013
Closure date: May 12, 2013, 7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
The southbound lanes of South Boulevard at Freeland Lane will close on Sunday, May 12 at 7 a.m. and will reopen the same day at 5 p.m. The lane for Steel Drum Corporation rear lot will also be closed at that time. The contractor will be performing work on the CATS LYNX rails. Motorists using southbound South Boulevard should detour using Freeland Lane, South Tryon Street and Woodlawn Avenue. Motorists using the Steel Drum Corporations rear lot will be flagged around the lane closure work. The lanes will be closed to all through traffic for the period above.
Local access to residences will be maintained.
CATS will be running a single track for the LYNX line that day. CATS bus route 12 will be affected.
Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, City traffic engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.
Pedestrians walking near work zone areas should be alert, cautious and allow extra traveling time. It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian walk signals where available and abide by detour signage.
Motorists traveling through work zone areas should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers should double their following distance.
