Communicated: March 7, 2013
Closure dates: March 11, 2013 – May 24, 2013
The 200 block and 300 block of South Mint Street between West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and West Fourth Street will close on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. and will reopen on Friday, May 24. This closure is necessary for upgrades and repair of the storm drainage system along South Mint Street.
Motorists on South Mint Street can use West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, South Graham Street and West Trade Street as a detour (shown in light blue on map below). Inbound motorists on West Fourth Street that want to continue to West Third Street should follow South Graham Street to West Trade Street to South Church Street (shown in blue on below map). The 300 block of West Third Street (shown in green below) will be temporarily converted for two-way operation to access properties along West Third Street and South Poplar Street. Motorists are advised to use caution due to the temporary traffic pattern and continued construction activity.
Local access will be maintained.
CATS will not be affected.
Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, City traffic engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.
Pedestrians walking near work zone areas should be alert, cautious and allow extra traveling time. It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian walk signals where available and abide by detour signage.
Motorists traveling through work zone areas should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers should double their following distance.
