Communicated: February 1, 2016
Closure dates: February 3, 2016 to February 24, 2016
To accommodate construction for the LYNX Blue Line Extension, a portion of the intersection of Tom Hunter Road at North Tryon Street will close on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 9 a.m. until Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 4 p.m. restricting vehicular left/U-turn movements.
- Motorists on North Tryon will not be able to make left or U-turns at Tom Hunter Road.
- Northbound motorists will be able to make U-turns at Sandy Avenue.
- Southbound motorists will be able to make U-turns at Arrowhead Drive.
During this closure, the contractor will grade the intersection to its final elevation in preparation for the future light rail track installation.
Local access to residences will be maintained.
CATS will not be affected.
Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, City traffic engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.
Pedestrians walking near work zone areas should be alert, cautious and allow extra traveling time. It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian walk signals where available and abide by detour signage.
Motorists traveling through work zone areas should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers should double their following distance.
