Intersection Closure: West Fourth Street and South Mint Street
Communicated: April 16, 2013

Closure dates: April 22, 2013 – May 20, 2013

The intersection of West Fourth Street and South Mint Street (shown in red on map below) will close on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. and will reopen on Monday, May 20, 2013. This closure is necessary to accommodate storm water construction related to infrastructure improvements for the Romare Beardon Park and BB&T Ballpark. Motorists can expect congestion and additional delays in the project area.

Motorists can use the following detours around this construction:
  • Eastbound West Fourth Street: Use North Graham Street, West Trade Street, and South Church Street (shown in purple on map below).
  • Westbound West Fourth Street: Use South Poplar Street, West Trade Street and South Graham Street (shown in blue on map below).
  • Southbound South Mint Street: Use West Trade Street, South Graham Street and West Martin Luther King Boulevard (shown in orange on map below).
  • Northbound South Mint Street: Use East Third Street, South Poplar Street, and West Trade Street (shown in Green on map below).
Local access will be maintained.

CATS bus routes may be delayed due to increased congestion in the detour areas.

Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned.  When this occurs, City traffic engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.

Pedestrians walking near work zone areas should be alert, cautious and allow extra traveling time.  It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian walk signals where available and abide by detour signage.

Motorists traveling through work zone areas should be alert and extra cautious.  Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone.  Drivers should double their following distance.
