Duke Energy Company provides several styles of
decorative lighting fixtures. A one-time fee may be required from applicants prior to the installation of such lighting.
Decorative lighting is available for a one-time installation charge that covers the cost of the fixture and to place service to the lights underground. A letter from the neighborhood association, or a neighborhood petition, may be required prior to installation to indicate neighborhood commitment to a consistent style of lighting through a neighborhood.
Caution should be used in selecting decorative lighting. Since they are mounted at 12' instead of the 25' for standard light, lighting patterns may not provide full coverage of a street with dark spots present. Unlike standard fixtures, which focus light on the roadway, the most common decorative fixtures shine omni-directional, which some may find objectionable.
Decorative lights are not available on thoroughfares or collector streets.
