The Reedy / McKee Creeks Interceptor Project

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities installed a new sanitary sewer interceptor along Reedy Creek to bring public sewer service to the property owners within the Reedy Creek Basin.

This project will provide a long-term solution to serving the growth being experienced in this area of eastern Mecklenburg, while at the same time protecting the water quality of the region.

A sewer interceptor is the main trunk sewer that is placed to allow future extensions to be constructed to serve developments and homeowners. It is a large diameter pipeline that is generally placed along a major drainage feature (creek, stream, or river) that transports wastewater by gravity to a pump station or treatment facility for disposal.

During 2011 and 2012, crews will install sewer interceptor along McKee Creek in Cabarrus County (starting spring 2011) and Mecklenburg County (starting summer 2011).

When complete sewer will travel into Cabarrus County for disposal at the Rocky River Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant.
