CATS BEGINS EXPRESS SERVICE AT 2:00 P.M. TODAY

Charlotte, N.C., January 10, 2011―With word that a number of Uptown businesses will close early on Monday, January 10, 2011, because of inclement weather, the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will operate a number of early express trips.  These early trips will operate from Uptown at 2:00 p.m.  Regular express service will operate as scheduled during the afternoon rush hours.  Please review in detail the announcement below for each express service.

40X Albemarle Express – Two buses will leave from the Charlotte Transportation Center at 2:00 p.m., making all stops in Uptown Charlotte.  One of the buses will operate the regular route to Lawyers Road and the other bus will operate the regular route to Pence Road.  Regularly scheduled express service will operate as scheduled during the afternoon rush hours.

41X Steele Creek Express – Customers should use the Lynx Blue Line to the Arrowood Station, and board #56 Arrowood to the Steele Creek area.  Regularly scheduled express service will operate as scheduled during the afternoon rush hours.

45X Carmel Road Express – One bus will leave from Gateway (Trade/Irwin) at 2:00 p.m..  The bus will make all stops in Uptown Charlotte, operate via Providence Road, turn right on Fairview Road, left on Carmel and operate via the regular route.  For service on Randolph Road between Uptown and Cotswold Center, use Route 15 Randolph.  Regularly scheduled express service will operate as scheduled during the afternoon rush hours.

48X Huntersville Express – Customers traveling mid-day should use the 77X North Meck Express which will operate according to its regular mid-day schedule.  The mid-day trips on 77X North Meck Express stop at the Huntersville-Gateway Park and Ride lot.  The 48X Huntersville Express will operate according to its regular schedule starting at 3:22 p.m.

51X Idlewild Express – One bus will leave from the Charlotte Transportation Center at 2:00 p.m., making all stops in Uptown Charlotte.  It will operate the regular route to Idlewild.  Regularly scheduled express service will operate as scheduled during the afternoon rush hours.

53X Northlake Express - Customers traveling to Northlake Mall should use #7 Beatties Ford Road, which will operate according to its regular schedule.  Look for trips going to Northlake, and not the trips to Sunset.  53X rush hour service will begin as scheduled at 4:00 p.m.

54X University Research Park Express - One bus will leave from the Charlotte Transportation Center at 2:00 p.m., making all stops in Uptown Charlotte.  It will operate the regular route to the Mallard Creek Park and Ride and to Claude Freeman Drive.  Regularly scheduled express service will operate as scheduled during the afternoon rush hours.

61X Arboretum Express - One bus will leave from the Gateway (Trade/Irwin) at 2:00 p.m., making all stops in Uptown Charlotte.  It will operate the regular route to Arboretum and Home Depot.  Regularly scheduled express service will operate as scheduled during the afternoon rush hours.

62X Rea Road Express - One bus will leave from the Gateway (Trade/Irwin) at 2:00 p.m., making all stops in Uptown Charlotte.  It will operate the regular route to St. Matthews Catholic Church Park and Ride.  Regularly scheduled express service will operate as scheduled during the afternoon rush hours.

64X Independence Express – Customers of 64X who want to travel early should use 74X Union County Express.  One 74X Union County Express bus will leave from the Charlotte Transportation Center at 2:00 p.m., making all stops in Uptown Charlotte.  It will make all 64X Independence Express stops, including the Matthews-Independence Pointe Park and Ride off of Sam Newell.  This bus will continue via Hwy. 74 and make all stops in Union County.  Passengers will be charged a regular express fare.  Regularly scheduled express service will operate as scheduled during the afternoon rush hours.

65X Matthews Express - One bus will leave from the Charlotte Transportation Center at 2:00 p.m., making all stops in Uptown Charlotte.  It will operate the regular route to Matthews.  Regularly scheduled express service will operate as scheduled during the afternoon rush hours.

74X Union County Express - One bus will leave from the Charlotte Transportation Center at 2:00 p.m., making all stops in Uptown Charlotte.  It will make all 64X and 74X stops in Mecklenburg County and Union County.  Regularly scheduled express service will operate as scheduled during the afternoon rush hours.

77X North Meck Express – 77X North Meck Express will operate according to its regular schedule.  Mid-day trips only travel as far as Northcross Park and Ride.  Customers traveling in mid-day can use Village Rider service to continue into Davidson and Cornelius.  The regular service to Davidson and Cornelius will begin operating at 2:52 p.m. as scheduled.

80X Concord Express - One bus will leave from the Charlotte Transportation Center at 2:00 p.m., making all stops in Uptown Charlotte.  It will operate the regular route to Concord.  Regularly scheduled express service will operate as scheduled during the afternoon rush hours.

82X Rock Hill Express - One bus will leave from the Charlotte Transportation Center at 2:00 p.m., making all stops in Uptown Charlotte.  It will operate the regular route to Rock Hill.  Regularly scheduled express service will operate as scheduled during the afternoon rush hours.

85X Gastonia Express - One bus will leave from the Charlotte Transportation Center at 2:00 p.m., making all stops in Uptown Charlotte.  It will operate the regular route to Gastonia.  Regularly scheduled express service will operate as scheduled during the afternoon rush hours.

88X Mountain Island Express - One bus will leave from the Charlotte Transportation Center at 2:00 p.m., making all stops in Uptown Charlotte.  It will operate the regular route to Wal-Mart.  Regularly scheduled express service will operate as scheduled during the afternoon rush hours.
