CATS Announces 2013 Bus Maintenance Roadeo Winners
Immediate Release - March 25, 2013

Charlotte Area Transit System’s (CATS) top mechanics competed in an intense Bus Roadeo challenge on March 23 for the title of the best transit maintenance team in Charlotte. First place honors went to the maintenance team of Jeff Dahle, Charles Jones and Greg Trogdon.

This year’s winning team, which rose to the top from second place in the 2012 competition, will advance to the 2013 International Bus Maintenance Roadeo in Indianapolis, Indiana. The international competition will consist of transit agencies from across the country.

Second place went to the team of Billy Belcher, Jerry McNeilly and Craig Patch. The third place team was comprised of Robert Baier, Chaz Gostlin and Weston Page. Maintenance teams were judged on speed and accuracy as they searched for vehicle defects such as shifting issues and transmission problems. Teams also took a written exam to test their knowledge of proper care for transit buses.  The Maintenance Roadeo gives employees a chance to demonstrate the skills and knowledge they use every day to help CATS maintain a safe transit system.

In addition to mechanics, body shop teams and individual bus maintenance support/service lane employees competed in separate competitions. First place for the body shop competition went to the team of Travis Compton and Ryan Stevens. Victoria Hanson won first place for the maintenance support/service lane category.
