LYNX BLUE LINE HOLDS ITS THIRD ANNUAL LIGHT RAIL RODEO
Charlotte, N.C., April 8, 2011 ─ Join the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) on Saturday, April 9, starting at 7:00 a.m. at the South Boulevard Light Rail Facility, located at 3200 South Boulevard, as rail operators and mechanics compete for top honors in the Third Annual Light Rail Rodeo.
CATS will have six light rail operators competing during this year’s rodeo. LYNX Blue Line Operators will be judged on a written test, professional appearance, pre-trip inspection, measured stops and operating procedures out on the rail line. Five light rail mechanics will complete a written test and be evaluated in the following areas: tool identification, defective components search, circuit troubleshooting and a series of tests with torque wrenches.
“LYNX Blue Line success continued in FY2010, traveling 815,000 miles and transporting almost five million customers,” said Rocky Paiano, CATS’ General Manager of Rail Operations. “Safety is our number one goal of operations each day. The light rail rodeo gives staff the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they use to get our customers to their destinations as efficiently and safely as possible.” CATS’ light rail has an on-time performance of 99 percent and only one preventable accident in over three years of operation, making the LYNX Blue Line one of the safest light rail system’s in the country.
