Route 46x – Harrisburg Road Express and Route 51 – Pineville-Matthews Road
May 28, 2013 – On Monday, June 3, the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will implement two new bus routes. The Route 46X – Harrisburg Road Express will operate similar to the former 40X Pence Road, serving Harrisburg Road via Albemarle Road. Route 46X will operate between Uptown and a new park and ride at Cambridge Commons Shopping Center off Harrisburg Road and Interstate 485. Service will also be provided to the Albemarle Road Park and Ride near W.T. Harris Boulevard. Service will operate every 30 minutes weekday mornings and evenings. Route 51 – Pineville-Matthews Road (Hwy 51) will provide service between Carolina Place Mall in Pineville and Sycamore Commons in Matthews. Service will also be provided to Carmel Commons and Arboretum shopping centers in South Charlotte, and the Independence Pointe Park and Ride and Windsor Square Shopping Center in Matthews. Route 51 will operate every 30 minutes weekday mornings and evenings, and every 60 minutes midday and Saturdays.
“CATS is pleased to provide these new services for our customers,” says Pamela White, Manager of Service Development. “These routes were included in the Countywide Transit Services Plan and the enhancements assist CATS in providing additional services and connections for our riders. Please note that with the addition of Route 51 - Pineville-Matthews Road, CATS has changed the name of Route 51X – Idlewild Road Express to Route 52X – Idlewild Road Express.”
CATS is adjusting routes that travel on Independence Boulevard to minimize impacts during the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) construction that recently started. Additional service to Route 6 – Kings Drive, called Route 6M Metropolitan will provide limited service to the Metropolitan via Kenilworth Avenue to Pearl Park Way to Kings Drive.
