CATS Carries Hundreds to the May NASCAR races
Hundreds of NASCAR fans took advantage of the convenience and ease of sitting back and letting the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) do the driving to the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race on May 21 and the Coca-Cola 600 on May 29.

On Saturday, May 21, CATS provided 518 rides to and from the Speedway on the 79X Concord Mills Express.  On Sunday, May 29, that number more than doubled with 1,197 rides taken to and from the race.  “Ridership to the Charlotte Motor Speedway continues to grow each year during Race Week,” said Larry Kopf, CATS’ Chief Operations Planning Officer.   “Fans are finding the 79X Concord Mills Express is a convenient, hassle-free way to get to and from the track.”  Both drop-off and pick-up locations at Charlotte Motor Speedway are near the track’s main entrance.
The 79X Concord Mills Express operates from the Mall. Service operates each Saturday and on three race days each year.  Service for both race events included the 79X making a loop uptown and stopping near the NASCAR Hall of Fame and major hotels on Martin Luther King Boulevard, McDowell Street, Fourth Street and Trade Street before departing to the Speedway.
