Immediate Release - September 28, 2012
On Monday, October 1, 2012, the Charlotte Area Transit System’s (CATS) new Albemarle Road Park and Ride will open. This new park and ride has 231 parking spaces available for CATS riders on Routes 9 Central Avenue and 40X Albemarle Road Express.
CATS’ Albemarle Road Park and Ride replaces the City Save-a-Lot #1 Park and Ride allowing for modifications
to Routes 9 and 40X. “Adjustments to Routes 9 and 40X were included in the Countywide Transit Services Plan helping CATS to continue providing great service and connections for our riders,” says Larry Kopf, Chief Operations Planning Officer and Manager of Bus Operations. “The adjustments will provide extended service on Route 9 and a faster commute for Route 40X.”
Route 9 Central Avenue will utilize regular routing to serve Farm Pond Lane. From Farm Pond Lane, the route will continue on Albemarle Road, turn left on WT Harris Blvd, and right onto Lawyers Road to the Albemarle Road Park and Ride. The service along Idlewild Road North will be maintained via the inbound service from the Albemarle Road Park and Ride. Route 9 will continue to serve the Eastland Community Transit Center.
Route 40X Lawyers Road Express service in Uptown Charlotte will remain the same. Exiting Uptown via Independence Boulevard, the 40X will continue on Albemarle Road, turn left on W.T. Harris Boulevard and turn right on Lawyers Road to serve the Albemarle Road Park and Ride. Route 40X will no longer serve the Eastland Community Transit Center. The 40XL-Lawyers Road will continue on Lawyers Road, crossover Albemarle Road and resume regular routing. The 40XP-Pence Road will make a left on Albemarle Road and resume regular routing.
