MAINTENANCE TO BEGIN ON LYNX BLUE LINE
Charlotte, N.C., November 11, 2010 - CATS opened the LYNX Blue Line nearly three years ago on November 24, 2007. Now over 14 million riders later it is time to do some routine maintenance on the line to keep your ride running smoothly. Beginning Sunday, November 14, 2010, LYNX Blue Line crews will be working on the overhead electrical wires that power the light rail trains. This overhead wire system is called the catenary. Preventative maintenance on the catenary line will provide maximum operational life of the wire and continued safety of CATS rail operations.
The maintenance is expected to last several months. The work must be done during daylight hours to provide additional safety precautions and required sight distances. Monday through Thursday rail maintenance crews will conduct the work during the non rush hour between 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. LYNX trains will operate on a single track around the areas of work. Signs will be posted at the platforms to let customers know which side of the station trains will pick up and drop off. On Sundays trains will operator every thirty minutes during the day from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.as crews work on the crossover sections of the track. The schedule will be adjusted accordingly to accommodate special events.
