CATS SERVICE CHANGES TAKE EFFECT FEBRUARY 1

Charlotte, NC, January 27, 2010 - Beginning Monday, February 1, the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will make adjustments to several bus routes.  “CATS strives to balance the improvement of transportation choices for the residents of Charlotte-Mecklenburg and surrounding counties while maintaining cost-effectiveness,” said Larry Kopf, Interim Chief Operations Manager for CATS. 
 
Due to scheduled construction at Sam Furr and Statesville Roads, the Village Rider routes will experience some adjustments.  Route 97 Cornelius Village Rider service will be extended to the Huntersville Gateway Park and Ride via Old Statesville Road.  Route 98 McCoy Road Village Rider will continue to operate to Sam Furr/Statesville Road with service laying over at the Huntersville Gateway Park and Ride.  Route 99 Huntersville Village Rider will originate at the Huntersville Gateway Park and Ride and continue to Northlake Mall.  Customers near the North County Library will be able to board either Route 97 Cornelius Village Rider or Route 98 McCoy Road Village Rider to travel from the North County Library to the Huntersville Gateway Park and Ride to board Route 99 Huntersville Village Rider.

Here are some other changes occurring on Monday:
•Route 17 Commonwealth will extend to the Matthews-Independence Pointe Park and Ride across from Windsor Square.  The schedule will be adjusted as a result of extending the route.
•Weekday service on the Route 20 Sharon Road will operate every 30 minutes during peak hours. 
• Route 30 Woodlawn/Scaleybark Crosstown trip that departs from the Rosa Parks Community Transit Center at 9:20 p.m. will be extended to the Park Road Shopping Center.
•The overflow park and ride lot at Presbyterian Hospital in the University Research Park area for the 54X University Research Park Express will be discontinued.  Customers can park at the Mallard Creek Park and Ride lot on J.N. Pease Place. 
•Service on the 83X Mooresville Express will be reduced to three morning trips and three afternoon trips.
