Charlotte, N.C., March 17, 2010 - Join the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) and The Relatives to celebrate National Safe Place Week at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 19 at The Relatives, located at 1100 East Boulevard. Chair of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners Jennifer Roberts, District 3 Council Member Patsy Kinsey, CATS CEO Carolyn Flowers and Executive Director of The Relatives Brennon D. Graham will unveil a special Safe Place message that will go up in CATS buses and trains for the next year. The Relatives is the only Safe Place for children ages 7-17 in Mecklenburg County.
“Many of the nearly 300 youth that sought shelter in Mecklenburg County last year were homeless or had no form of transportation when they had to leave their house to seek safety,” said CATS CEO Carolyn Flowers. “As part of CATS commitment to the community, we are proud to be a Safe Place partner and provide youth in need transportation to The Relatives.”
“The mission of The Relatives is to keep kids safe and families together,” said Brennon D. Graham, Executive Director for The Relatives. “As the local Safe Place shelter, The Relatives provides access to immediate help and supportive resources for all young people in crisis through a network of sites by qualified agencies, trained volunteers and businesses.
