LYNX BLUE LINE CONDUCTS SECOND ANNUAL LIGHT RAIL RODEO
Charlotte, N.C., April 22, 2010 - Join the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) on Saturday, April 24, starting at 8 a.m. at the South Boulevard Light Rail Facility, located at 3200 South Boulevard, as rail operators and mechanics compete for top honors in the Second Annual Light Rail Roadeo.
During this year’s Roadeo, LYNX Blue Line Operators will be judged on a written test, professional appearance, pre-trip inspection, measured stops and operating procedures out on the rail line. Rail mechanics will undergo a written test, tool identification, defective components search, circuit troubleshooting and a series of tests with torque wrenches.
“In FY2009, the LYNX Blue Line travelled 775,000 miles and transported more than 4.9 million customers,” said Rocky Paiano, CATS’ General Manager of Rail Operations. “Safety is our number one goal of operations each day. This Roadeo gives staff a chance to demonstrate the skills they use to get our customers to their destinations as efficiently and safely as possible.” The light rail system has an on-time performance of 99 percent and only one preventable accident in over two years of operation, the safest new-start light rail system in the country in recent history.
