CATS Announces 2012 Light Rail Rodeo Winners
Immediate Release - April 23, 2012

Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is pleased to announce the winners of its Fourth Annual Light Rail Rodeo.  The Rodeo took place at the South Boulevard Light Rail Facility located at 3200 South Boulevard. The Rodeo gave rail operators and mechanics a chance to demonstrate the skills they use each day on the LYNX Blue Line.

The first place winner in the light rail operator competition is Darryl Smith.  Second place went to Tara Stinson with Metro Coston taking third.  The light rail operators were judged on a written test, professional appearance, pre-trip inspection, measured stops and operating procedures out on the rail line.

Top honors in the light rail maintenance competition went to Eugene Capote.  Second and third place winners were Charles Truong and Patrick Mills respectively.  Rail mechanics underwent a written test, tool identification, defective components search, circuit troubleshooting and a series of tests with torque wrenches.

This year’s light rail operator and maintenance winners will represent CATS at the International Rail Rodeo in Dallas, Texas this June.  To learn more about CATS and its services, visit www.ridetransit.org or call 704-336-7433.
