Deputy City Manager Ron Kimble

As Deputy City Manager for the City of Charlotte, Ronald R. (Ron) Kimble is responsible for economic development, redevelopment, hospitality and tourism, and business corridor improvement activities for the City.

He has led initiatives including the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Wachovia Tower/Cultural Arts Facilities Expansion, and US National Whitewater Center. Kimble is also the lead staff member for several City Council Committees, including Economic Development and Planning and Government Affairs.

Kimble also serves as the staff liaison to the Privatization and Competition Advisory Committee, a Council appointed citizens group charged with evaluation of privatization opportunities for the City.


Kimble joined the City of Charlotte in 2000 from Greenville, North Carolina where he served as City Manager for ten years. Prior to his appointment as Greenville’s City Manager, he also served the City of Greenville as Assistant City Manager and Finance Director.

Prior to his tenure in government posts in North Carolina, Ron was Assistant Director of Finance in his hometown of Galesburg, Illinois for nine years. He received his bachelors’ degrees in Accounting and Business Administration from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.

He also is a graduate of the Senior Executive Leadership Institute Program through the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. Kimble is a member of the International City/County Management Association and the North Carolina City and County Management Association.

He is currently active with the Charlotte Rotary Club, the Charlotte Regional Sports Commission and the United Way of the Central Carolinas. He is a past president of the Greenville Noon Rotary, and past State Vice President of the NC Government Finance Officers Association.

He lives in Charlotte with his wife, Jan. They have one grown daughter, Jamie (deceased).
