Howie Acres Neighborhood Improvement Project Phases 1 and 2

This neighborhood project is funded through the 2000 and 2006 voter-approved bonds. Improvements will provide storm drainage, sidewalk and curb and gutter in the Howie Acres neighborhood. 

What's happened? Howie Acres Phase 1 - completed construction in November 2008. The design phase for Howie Acres Phase 2 is complete. 

What's next? Right-of-way acquisition on Phase 2 is underway.  Property acqusistion is complete with the exception of the Mecklenburg County park property.  The bid phase and construction will immediately follow.

This project will construct infrastructure improvements in the Howie Acres neighborhood such as storm drainage, sidewalks, curb and gutter. The project will be built in two phases. Phase 1, completed in November 2008, included Trembeth, Bearwood and Redwood streets. Phase 2 will include a portion of Howie Circle and Dinglewood Avenue.  Funds to build Phase 2 were included in the 2006 voter approved Neighborhood Bonds. Phase 2 includes:

Dinglewood Avenue will receive curb and gutter and storm draining along the north side of the street.
Howie Circle will receive storm drainage replacement and ditch repairs near the park property.

Objectives:

  • Maintain, stabilize and revitalize the neighborhood through comprehensive infrastructure improvements
  • Strengthen the neighborhood and surrounding community
  • Improve infrastructure features in the neighborhood such as storm drainage, curb & gutter, and sidewalk features.

Cost:  $1,500,000
The Engineering & Property Management (E&PM) project team will manage the Howie Acres Neighborhood Project through a four stage process with input from the Neighborhood & Business Services, Charlotte Mecklenburg Planning Department, Charlotte Department of Transportation and other City departments as needed. Click here to learn how City projects are selected, designed and built.
