An Intersection Project
This project will create a new signalized intersection at Freedom Drive (NC27) and a new street, Stewart Creek Parkway, to be constructed by a developer. It will also modify the intersection of Freedom Drive and Thrift Road to provide a right-in right-out only movement.
This new road was envisioned for a future north south connection that will run from Wilkinson Blvd to Tuckaseegee.
Objectives:
- Create a new signalized intersection at Freedom Drive and a new street.
- Improve Freedom Drive traffic flow by providing a continuous third in-bound lane.
- Modify the intersection of Thrift Road and Freedom Drive.
The proposed development at Freedom Drive and Thrift Road was a reason to accelerate the implementation of the site and development plan for the Bryant Park area prepared by the Planning Department. CDOT concluded that a new intersection was needed to provide a more effective street network.
Cost: $1,400,000
Please note that the project cost will include all costs associated with the project such as planning and design, acquiring the right of way, utility relocation, consultant fees, construction, signalization, permits and landscaping.
The Engineering & Property Management (E&PM) project team will manage the Freedom Drive – Stewart Creek Parkway Project through a four stage process.
