Krefeld Drive

Krefeld Drive
This 2002 Transportation Bond Project will unite two parts of Krefeld Drive.

What's happened?
During the Planning Phase, City staff and consultants completed the concept design of Krefeld Drive. The Design Phase is on hold until funding is available.

What's next? The City Council-approved FY2009-2013 Capital Investment Plan includes Krefeld as an "unfunded project request." We will update this web page when funding becomes available. (last update: September 2008)

A 2002 Transportation Bond Project

This transportation project will unite two existing portions of Krefeld Drive, both of which are separated by Irvins Creek. This involves building a new road through undeveloped land, constructing a bridge across Irvins Creek, and installing sidewalk, planting strips and bicycle lanes.

The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) has considered this road as part of the Southeast Transit Corridor alignment, which means accommodations for bus or light rail transit will be part of this project.

Objectives:

  • Increase connectivity between neighborhoods and businesses
  • Provide an alternate route along the Independence Boulevard corridor
  • Construct a bridge across Irvins Creek
  • Accommodate possible Southeast Transit Corridor facilities
Cost:  To be determined
The project is on hold until funding is available for design, real estate acquisition and construction.

The Engineering & Property Management (E&PM) project team will manage the Krefeld Drive project through a four stage process. Click here to learn how City projects are selected, designed and built.
