Mayor Patrick Cannon today announced Ashley Simmons will become communications and outreach manager for the Office of the Mayor, effective April 22, 2014. For the past year, Simmons has served as the chief public information officer for Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools in Nashville, NC. In this role, she led the district’s internal and external communications efforts.  Previously, she served NRMPS as a public relations coordinator and grant writer.

“Ashley’s communications and community relations experience in three different North Carolina school systems is impressive and will allow her to hit the ground running in the Office of the Mayor,” said Mayor Cannon. "Her skill set, energy and passion for public service came through loud and clear to me and my team.”

Prior to NRMPS, Ashley worked for four years as the public information officer for Richmond County Schools in Hamlet, NC. Previously, she worked in public relations for Durham Public Schools, Time Warner Cable, and 919 Marketing Company.

Simmons, a native of Statesville, NC, holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of North Carolina-Pembroke.
